Dear friends and supporters of ICARUS!
After the Convention is before the Convention! While we still process the exciting moments we experienced in Novi Sad at the beginning of June, we can already get into the mood for the upcoming meeting in Naples in October.
Our colleagues from the University of Naples Federico II (Centro MUSA – Museum of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Humanities, and DSW Lab) and ICARUS Italia invite you all to gather in the scenic Royal Palace of Portici in Naples. The theme of the 33rd ICARUS Convention is “European Travel Routes in GLAM institutions, the Digital Humanities and Archival Documents”.
All ICARUS members and other interested parties are most welcome to contribute to the conference theme answering our Call for Papers (open until 17 July 2024).
Topics to touch upon are manifold, for example:
Travel as Cultural Dialogue and GLAM Heritage
- Development of thematic itineraries within galleries, libraries, archives, and museums based on travel-related materials.
- Travel as a tool for experiential knowledge and inspiration for the production and creation of documents and artistic artifacts.
- Travel-related materials as a means to promote cultural dialogue among different communities and cultures.
Collaborative Experiences between GLAM, Universities, and the General Public
- Research and enhancement of travel-related materials.
- Innovative strategies for the digitization and dissemination of travel materials, fostering broader and more inclusive access.
Archive Materials and the Theme of Travel
- The archives and museums and travel-related materials.
- Systems and standards used to describe and catalog these materials, ensuring they are easily searchable and accessible.
- Communication and accessibility of travel-related materials: techniques and strategies.
The Convention will accommodate different session options – from presentations, lectures to workshops and panel discussions – so, when submitting your abstract, please indicate which format you would like to use.
