And last, but definitely not least: Our dear Thomas Aigner will be awarded the "Bavarian Janus 2025" at the 13th Bavarian Archival Days (24-25 March 2025). This prize is awarded every two years in honour of outstanding achievements in the archival world. So, whoever is around the corner from Augsburg on the evening of 24 March, make sure to give a big cheer in honour of Thomas!

Call for Participation:
ICARUS Convention #34 "Archives Reflecting 21st Century Challenges – Migration and Sustainability"

As already announced, our 34th ICARUS Convention will take place in the wonderful city of Budapest! Hosted by the National Archives of Hungary, the convention shall bring together diverse initiatives that explore how archival materials and practices respond to pressing global challenges of the 21st century, such as migration and climate change.

Under the overarching theme “Archives Reflecting 21st Century Challenges,” the convention will highlight the dual role of archives as custodians of historical memory and active participants in addressing contemporary issues.

Participations may cover the following broad topics:
- Archives and Traces of Migration: as our ICARUS convention will also host the final event of the project "ATOM" and we invite the submission of papers relating to the overall topic of migration (note: deadline is 28 February 2025)
- Sustainable Archives and Greener Approaches: exploring topics like disaster risk management and the adoption of greener approaches in archives (deadline for the submission of papers: 30 March 2025)

Call for Abstracts:
2nd International Scientific Conference "Multidisciplinary Research on Cultural Heritage" (MRCH 2025)

Our dear colleagues in Zagreb are planning the second international gathering, following the sucess of last year's event "Colour in Written Heritage: Multidisciplinary Research". The Croatian State Archives, University of Zagreb (Faculty of Graphic Arts) and Museum of Contemporary Art teamed up again to host the conference "Multidisciplinary Research on Cultural Heritage" in Zagreb, from 24-26 September 2025.

The Call for Abstracts is out now and experts from all kinds of Cultural Heritage related disciplines are invited to submit their papers by 17 March 2025

Call for Abstracts: Monastica Historia VIII

The 8th conference of the series "Monastica Historia" will be held in the Moravian city of Nová Říše, Czechia, from 11-13 September 2025. This year's topic is dedicated to the education of members of religious orders in early modern Europe, with a possible look at or comparison with modern times (19th and 20th centuries).

Contributions can be made in German and English (max. duration of the presentations: 20 minutes). Proposals and applications should be sent to marek.brcak@ruk.cuni.cz or valento-va@hiu.cas.cz by 15 April 2025, stating the title of the paper and a short abstract (10 to 15 lines).

Call for Proposals: "Europeana 2025 - Preserve, Protect, Reuse" (deadline: 4 March 2025)

The annual conference of Europeana in 2025  will be held on 11-12 June 2025 during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Europeana 2025 is organised within the common European data space for cultural heritage. It will explore critical questions facing the digital heritage sector and society at large, and how the data space can contribute to addressing them. It will delve into the preservation, protection and reuse of digital cultural heritage, both within the data space and beyond.

The conference is for professionals, students and policymakers working in, with and around cultural heritage, and interested in exploring the work of the common European data space for cultural heritage. They want the conference programme to be diverse and inclusive, and co-curate it with and for our sector through an open call for proposals.

The call for proposals for sessions and interventions to be held during Europeana 2025 focuses on the themes of Preserve, Protect and Reuse.

Deadline for the submission of proposals is 4 March 2025.

International Conference: "Innovation through Heritage: Resilience in Times of Climate Change"

The Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe (ARCHE) invites you to join the international conference, hosted by Time Machine Organisation in Vienna, 3-5 March 2025, to explore how national and European research and funding policies can unite to make cultural heritage resilient in the face of climate change. This event marks a significant step forward as the ARCHE consortium works toward establishing a European Partnership Framework — a masterplan enabling Member States and the European Commission to jointly support innovative initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural heritage resilience.

“Innovation through Heritage” brings together policymakers, thought leaders, innovators, and stakeholders from across Europe to shape the future of cultural heritage. With a focus on critical themes such as digitization, technology, climate adaptation, and resilience, this conference provides a unique platform to collaborate and define a sustainable roadmap for cultural heritage research and innovation, shaping its transformative potential for 2040 and beyond.

10th ICARUS Croatia Days: "Networks and Routes of Cultural Heritage – Archives as Places of Stories and History"

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the ICARUS Croatia Days! Hooray!! 

This year's event will take place from 26-28 March 2025 in Opatija, organised by ICARUS Croatia, the Croatian Museum of Tourism and other partners. Main theme of the conference is "Networks and Routes of Cultural Heritage – Archives as Places of Stories and History" and it intends to showcase experiences of current Creative Europe projects, such as AToM (dealing with documenting and exploring archival heritage from past and present migrations as communication bound between communities, cultures, and time periods) and E-Routes (dealing with innovative ways of presenting traveling sources in context of cultural-historical heritage and the experience of travel as communication that connects places and people through the common experience of sharing cultural heritage, which transcends time, space and borders).

New Member: ARCHION - Church Registers Online

We are delighted to welcome a new member to the ICARUS consortium: ARCHION, Germany's leading internet portal for digital access to historical church registers. With its currently 180.000 records and 30 million pages, it is a perfect complement to ICARUS' Matricula portal. The possibilities for online genealogical research are constantly growing, and we look forward to working with Archion in the future!
